What is a Cyber Range?

A cyber range is a virtual environment that uses actual network equipment that budding cyber security professionals can use to practice for real-life scenarios.3 Cyber ranges simulate attacks so that cyber security professionals can learn how to detect and respond to threats.

Cyber ranges also ready students to act as a team to overcome threats. In most professional circumstances, by sharpening communication skills, students will be able to bring their best work to team efforts against hacking threats.

Regent’s Cyber Range uses real-world scenarios to train students for known threats. There are also hands-on labs, skill assessments, and courses available to cyber security students who use the Cyber Range.

The Cyber Range as a Resource for Students

Regent University offers access to the Cyber Range to its students as well as cyber boot camp participants. And there are no geographical limitations – it is available to students on campus in Virginia Beach as well as online. This gives our students the edge they need to stand out in a crowd. They can enter the workforce or advance their careers with practical, hands-on training gained on the Cyber Range.

Regent was named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) for the B.S. in Cybersecurity by the National Security Agency (NSA). The bachelor’s program was also ranked among the Top 15 Best Online Cybersecurity Degree Programs by Intelligent, 2022.

Cyber security professionals are highly sought after, especially with the growth of online platforms for commerce and information sharing. Occupations like network and computer systems administrators, database administrators and architects, and information security analysts are profitable and desirable careers. How large is this workforce? Cybersecurity Ventures predicts that there will be 3.5 million cyber security jobs in 2025.4
