The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is pleased to offer a summer study program in Germany. Join our team of faculty and staff for a unique two-week study tour offers a perfect blend of historical exploration and cultural immersion. From old-world Berlin to the quaint Germanic villages of Eisenach and the grand castles in Heidelberg, you’ll experience Martin Luther’s journey through Germany from birth to death and experience a vibrant European culture that continues to inspire. Participants will also enjoy exploring multiple castles and cathedrals across the German countryside. Join us in May 2025 for a journey that will enrich your understanding of religious history and leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

Attendees will be in the following cities within this trip timeline (itinerary subject to change):

  • Berlin, Germany
  • Wittenburg, Germany
  • Eisleben, Germany
  • Frankfurt, Germany
  • Eisenach, Germany
  • Erfurt, Germany
  • Worms, Germany
  • Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany 
  • Heidelburg, Germany

The trip is being offered to all Regent students; however, it may also be taken without the coursework by family members and friends interested in the cultural experience if space is available. Students taking the course for credit have priority in the application submission.

The Germany Program Fee is a total of $2423. The non-refundable $1000 deposit will be applied toward the $2423. The $2423 is nonrefundable for any reason other than if the class is canceled.

For Credit: If you are taking this class for credit, the $1000 deposit will be applied to your student account. The remaining balance of $1423 will be applied to your student account also. If you have federal aid to cover your full student account balance, you do not need to do anything.

Please refer to the Financial Aid Calendar for federal aid disbursement dates. If you DO NOT have federal aid to cover your balance in full, you must either: Pay in full OR enroll in the Tuition Installment Plan (TIP) by the Semester Check-In deadline. Failure to do so could put your registration in jeopardy of being dropped for non-payment. Both payments and enrollment in Tuition Installment Plan (TIP) can be done in your Genysis accounts under the Bill + Payment Center Tab.

For Non-Credit: If you are taking this class for non-credit, you must pay the $1000 deposit online by March 1, 2025. The remaining amount of $1423 must be paid online by April 30, 2025.

What is included?

Above stated price does NOT include:

  • Airfare to and from Germany

  • Tuition and fees (Undergraduate students only, if taking course for credit)

Attendees are responsible for making their own flight arrangements and it is not included in the Germany Program Fee.

We ask that attendees not purchase airline tickets until you are contacted with confirmation by the program director, which should be in March.

Attendees will stay in two different hotel locations during the Germany trip. These locations will be shared with attendees in their initial orientation meeting mid-March. All hotel locations will be located within close proximity to each major city center and will be within walking distance of the railway and bus stations. Attendees will share a room. Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional cost of $1000. Please contact the Italy program director at studyabroad@regent.edu for details.

If you haven’t already ordered your passport, do it ASAP! You will not be able to travel without it. You can apply for a passport online or at a number of local agencies including the US Post Office. To find out more passport information or apply online visit the U.S. Department of State passport webpage. As a general rule, passports must be valid at least six (6) months beyond the date the traveler will exit the United States. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® will cover tuition and mandatory fees but is not authorized to directly cover the Ireland Program Fee and associated costs such as travel and lodging. Students using this benefit may enroll in a Military Tuition Installment Plan to cover this fee.

Students using Veteran Readiness & Employment must have prior authorization from their counselor and an updated Purchase Order sent to Regent University.

All other VA education benefits will be paid directly by the VA and these funds may be used to cover all tuition and fees assessed on your account. You should enroll in a Military Tuition Installment Plan to pay Regent on dates that align with the VA’s payment timeline.

This program can be rigorous, and some of the events may require demanding physical activities. Therefore, participants should possess the ability to:

  1. Walk between three to twelve miles each day on cobblestone sidewalks and dirt paths through an open field
  2. Stand for 30 minutes without sitting
  3. Climb multiple flights of stairs without assistance. Some hotels and sites likely will not have accommodations such as elevators or rooms on the ground floor.
  4. Hear instructions in a group setting with environmental noise present
  5. Read and understand written instructions and signs
  6. Step in and out of buses or shuttles
  7. Older facilities outside the United States may not offer the same types of disability accommodations that are offered in the United States.
  8. Hotel stays may not have access air conditioning, but many buildings do not have air conditioning.
  9. Double check to make sure your medications are legal in the UK.

Regent University may be unable to provide special accommodation for people with disabilities. If someone needs accommodation or assistance, that person must bring a companion/assistant at full price. Also, those who have a health or mental health condition that may interfere with participation in program activities, need to consult with their physician to determine if they are able to participate in a physically demanding study abroad program. Note that the minimum number of study trip attendees is 14 and the maximum number is 20. The trip will be canceled should the number of applicants with deposits not reach the minimum by March 1 and a full refund of payments will be issued. The Germany Program Fee is a total of $2423. All Regent undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences taking this course for credit should plan to check with their academic advisor to make sure this course will fit into their Approved Degree Plan before submitting your deposit. Regent undergraduate students can take this course for credit and will pay their normal tuition and fees. Non-credit travelers are welcome to attend. We have had mothers, fathers, grandparents and non-Regent travelers. The average age of travelers is between 21-66 years old. Travelers under the age of 18 are not allowed to attend without a parent.

In case of an emergency and the lead faculty member is unable to continue with the class, a designated assistant will take over and complete the course and trip.

All American citizens are advised to register their time abroad for the trip with the U.S. State Department.

The GENE 475, The Protestant Reformation, will take place during the spring semester in an eight-week course, March 27 – May 10, 2025 with a required one-week class in Germany from May 13-May 24, 2025. This class examines the historical figures that have shaped the Protestant Reformation throughout the trip, as in the accompanying course shell, will be on a variety of historical literature from a variety of writers that highlight the significance of Martin Luther, his life, and work to shape the Protestant Reformation within Germany and the western world. The course will explore various themes and historical constructs that shaped history and literature during that time frame from a Christian Worldview perspective.

Course Details
Undergraduate students may take GENE 475, The Protestant Reformation as a 3-credit elective course. This course is not available for graduate students to participate in, however, they may still apply to go on the trip. Course details such as syllabus, book list, and other items specific to the course will be shared with students once they are enrolled in the class.

Note for Undergraduate Students: You will not be able to register for any of these courses as you would normally. After you submit your application and pay the $1000 deposit, the Germany Program Director, will send the list of students to Academic Advising to register them in the correct class as a group.

NOTES ABOUT THE ITINERARY FOR MAY 2025
A formal itinerary of all sites and locations will be shared once all attendees are confirmed and deposited. All itinerary locations and activities are subject to change without notice and are not definite depending upon weather, business hours of operation and time. We highly recommend you be prepared for inclement weather and wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you may walk up to twelve miles each day. You are welcome to take a taxi if you desire to various sites on the itinerary. For “Meals on your own” you are welcome to eat at any establishment you desire.
