Regent University Receives $25,000 Grant from Sentara Health

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (July 11, 2024) – Regent University was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from Sentara Health to support the university’s Psychological Services Center (PSC), an out-patient mental health clinic located at the Virginia Beach campus.

“We are deeply grateful to Sentara for their partnership and generous support of Regent University,” said Claire Foster, Executive Vice President for Advancement & Enrollment at Regent. “This financial investment will help us provide critical training, prepare psychologists and counselors for the workforce, and expand access to mental health resources across Hampton Roads and beyond.”

Regent’s Psychological Services Center serves the university’s students and staff, as well as the surrounding Hampton Roads community. The facility is run by Regent’s Doctor of Psychology Clinical Program and is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The staff is comprised of doctoral students who are supervised by licensed clinical psychologists. This team of individuals with specialized skills and expertise provides professional counseling and pathways to additional support resources. Trainees gain invaluable experience by performing assessments and/or clinical services under supervision.

“Mental health is essential to our overall health, and the importance of attending to mental health has become even more pronounced during and after the COVID–19 pandemic,” said Sentara’s System Director of Behavioral Health Services Nedra Moncrief-Craig. “Sentara remains committed to ensuring behavioral health services are accessible to those in need. Our partnership with Regent helps ensure that there will be enough trained and qualified psychologists and counselors to meet the needs of the growing number of individuals seeking behavioral health services.”

The Sentara grant will support the PSC’s continued goals in pursuit of clinical excellence:

  1. Equip clinical psychology doctoral students within a professional clinic to become competent clinicians by providing services that integrate science and practice.
  2. Serve the Hampton Roads community by providing affordable, quality psychological services (including counseling, psychological assessments, and educational assessments).
  3. Increase awareness of mental health concerns and the support available at the PSC through community outreach focused on education regarding mental health.
