VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (May 16, 2024) – Today, Regent University announced the hiring of Donte Minter as head coach of the Regent Royal’s women’s basketball team. Minter rejoins Regent’s program after previously serving as a Royals assistant coach from 2021–2023. He then went on to coach at North Carolina’s Livingstone College, an NCAA Division II and CIAA program.

“I have worked with Donte in the past, when he first got into coaching, as well as him being our top women’s assistant two seasons ago,” said Michael Allen, Director of Athletics at Regent. “With the experience he has acquired over the last decade, he is the perfect fit to help move our women’s basketball program to competitive heights.”

As an assistant coach at Livingstone College, Minter created practice plans and managed student-athlete study halls. In addition, he started the first Tipoff dinner for the program in 20 years and created the program’s first ever endowment fund, while also having a role in developing the CIAA Freshman of the Year.

Minter is also well known in the Hampton Roads area, as he was the Head Junior Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach at Norfolk Christian School from 2014–2017 and served as an assistant coach at Salem High School during the 2014–2015 season.

Minter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University, where he was also a standout athlete for the men’s basketball team.

Director Allen added, “I know he is excited to not only lead our young women on the court but off the court as well. He will challenge them to achieve excellence in all areas of their lives while maintaining high integrity and supporting the true mission of our university, which is to create Christian Leaders to Change the World.”
