Bio
Dr. Tom Alexander currently serves as an assistant professor and assistant director for the Ph.D. Counseling and Psychological Studies program in the Regent University College of Health & Behavioral Sciences, Department of Counseling Ministries within the School of Psychology & Counseling. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Williams Baptist College, a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Arkansas State University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Capella University. With over 18 years of experience in the field of co-occurring substance use and mental health treatment, he has also served as an Integrated Behavioral Health and Complex Medical Needs Director for 6 years. Dr. Alexander’s diverse background includes work in forensic mental health, substance use treatment and outpatient counseling. He has been teaching at the graduate level for over 7 years, helping numerous students complete their dissertations. A published scholar, Dr. Alexander’s research focuses on integrated trauma and addiction treatment and co-occurring disorders. As a licensed professional counselor in Texas and Colorado, he specializes in trauma-based treatment interventions. Residing in the Austin, TX area, Dr. Alexander is a dedicated clinician, educator, and father of three beautiful children.
