Bio

Dr. Simon Tarr is an educator, artist and researcher serving as the dean of The Honors College as well as the School of Communication & the Arts at Regent University.

Tarr’s films and performances have screened on every continent (even Antarctica) in film festivals. And with orchestras and in the theatre. He co-holds a patent in virtual reality technology and has served on many boards of directors, including as president of the University Film and Video Foundation.

Over the past 25 years as a professor, Tarr has specialized in developing transformative experiences for learners, teaching thousands of students in the fields of media arts, information, design, and technology. He’s served as a professor at Penn State, Ithaca College, and the University of South Carolina, where he pioneered an interdisciplinary residential learning community to bring together undergraduate students from across fifty majors to bring new creations to reality in a state-of-the-art makerspace.

Tarr earned a Ph.D. in Information Science from the University of South Carolina, an MFA in Film Production from Ohio University, and a B.A. in Film & Video from Penn State. He enjoys athletics, music and video games with his wife, Jen, and their son Caspar, along with two opinionated dogs.
