Andrew Root, Ph.D.

Bio

Andrew Root is an assistant professor on the faculty at Regent University. He was also a Ph.D. student at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Prior to Regent, from 2011 to 2016, Root was division director, head of U.S. Equities, and member of the Board of Directors for Macquarie Capital USA.

Prior to running U.S. Equities, Root was Head of U.S. Research for Macquarie. The Macquarie U.S. Equity team consisted of 160 professionals across the U.S. and around the world. The U.S. Research team was composed of 70 analysts and associates covering approximately 600 stocks, across five offices. Root came to Macquarie from Alkeon Capital, where he managed alternative energy, infrastructure, cyclical and select financial investments. Prior to Alkeon, Root founded the Redtail long short equity fund for OTA Asset Management.

Root founded the Red Tail fund after nine years at Goldman Sachs (GS). At GS, Root was a managing director in the Investment Research division. As an analyst at GS, at various times, he covered semiconductors and paper and forest products. Root was also deputy director of U.S. Research and director of Canada research. Root started his career at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto. He has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from McMaster University and an MBA from Regent University. Root is married with two children.
