Financial Aid Enrollment Requirements

Many scholarships, loans, and grants require enrollment in a specific number of credit hours before they will apply to your account. Below you will find how many credits you must be enrolled in to be considered full-time, three quarter time, half-time, and less than half-time. Please refer to your award terms in Genisys for your award’s enrollment requirement.

* Note: Certain merit scholarships are eligible to be prorated if you are enrolled less than full-time in your last semester. Please contact the Student Financial Aid office for more information.

Enrollment status definitions are based on total semester credit hours rather than session specific credit hours.

Certain exceptions to the credit hour requirements shown below exist for students in the culminating experience phase of enrollment. Students enrolled in dissertation, comprehensive exams, thesis, internship, practicum, qualifying exams, portfolio, culminating experience, and professional project courses are considered to meet the halftime enrollment requirement for financial aid purposes. See the University Catalog for additional details.

Please note that J.D. level enrollment requirements differ slightly in the summer compared to the fall and spring semesters. Additionally, the credit hours reflected below are for financial aid purposes only. The J.D. program is offered in a three year (“fulltime”) , extended (“part-time”), and accelerated formats. These are degree completion track options and do not impact the definitions below. See the School of Law Juris Doctor (J.D.) program website for additional information on degree track options.

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs largely defines enrollment status (referred to as “training time”) in accordance with the loan and scholarship definitions (above). However, an exception exists specific to VA Benefit award programs that allows enrollment status to be defined per session rather than total semester credit hour registration. Visit our VA Benefit website page here for more information.
