Operations Division
The Operations Division provides daily law enforcement services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Regent University. Officers handle a wide variety of calls for service by following the department’s core values of Sacrifice. Excellence. Respect. Vigilance. Innovation. Character. Endurance to ensure a high level of service is provided to those requiring police assistance.
To successfully meet the department’s core values of S.E.R.V.I.C.E. the Operations Division is made up of several divisions: Patrol/Public Safety Division, Professional Standards Divisions, Communications Division, and Technical Support Division.
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is comprised of DCJS certified law enforcement officers who respond to calls for service in and around Regent University property by vehicles, bicycles, or foot 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Patrol Division also works with the Virginia Beach Police Department when investigating criminal violations. Officers have received training in first aid, crisis Intervention (CIT), de-escalation techniques and NARCAN so that they can provide quality services to the diverse needs of the Regent community.
The Public Safety Division is comprised of armed DCJS certified security officers who aid the Patrol Division. Security officers respond to calls for service such as unlocking doors for students/staff, providing safety escort, patrol the campus, and maintains a supportive relationship with local law enforcement.
Communications Division
The Communications Division is comprised of dispatchers who are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and assist the Patrol Division by answering calls and dispatching patrol units to various types of incidents.
Dispatchers are certified DCJS 911 operators who provide police officers with information related to investigations of crimial and non-criminal incidents in and around Regent University property.
Technical Support Division
The Technical Support Division is responsible for the designing, installing, programming, maintaining, servicing, and inspecting of all access control panels and equipment on doors, CCTV cameras, keys and cores on all buildings and all security systems on and off Campus.
Professional Standards Division
The Professional Standards Division includes the Training Division, Investigations Division and Internal Affairs which investigates all complaints of alleged misconduct of police department personnel. Once an investigation of misconduct is completed it is sent to the appropriate division for review and recommendations. The final disposition is subject to the approval of the Chief of Police.
The Training Division is responsible for maintaining the training mandate set by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) for RUPD officers. Annual In-Service training includes firearms, defensive tactics, crisis intervention, constitutional law, cultural diversity, and ethics.
The Investigations Division is responsible for investigating criminal cases which occur within RUPD’s jurisdiction. Investigative support is also provided to the Patrol Division and works in close liaison with Campus Security Authorities (CSA), Title IX Coordinator, and with other law enforcement agencies.
