Shark Tank's Daymond John Collaborates with Regent

A “Shark” is coming aboard Regent University’s Professional & Continuing Education (PCE) to launch a special online business certificate program and serve as a guest lecturer.

Daymond John, entrepreneur, author, motivational speaker and one of the stars of the critically acclaimed ABC Television business-themed program Shark Tank, is collaborating with Regent for The Daymond John Certificate in Entrepreneurship: Building Your Business with a Shark.

The Daymond John Certificate in Entrepreneurship: Building Your Business with a Shark will open for registration September 2, 2014 with the program scheduled to launch October 2, 2014. The certificate consists of seven distinct four-week online courses that cover all of the foundational bases of entrepreneurship, as well as some of the more advanced nuances of start-ups.

One full module in the program is based on John’s book, The Brand Within, and every student will receive a complimentary copy of the book with registration.

“Entrepreneurs help drive our economy, so we are thrilled to partner with Daymond John to offer the most relevant training in entrepreneurship through our affordable, online certificate program,” said Dr. Julianne Cenac, assistant vice president for PCE. "This is the only online certificate in entrepreneurship where students are learning directly from a ‘Shark’ of Daymond John's caliber. He brings values, integrity and savvy market insight to the program.”

“I’m very excited about my collaboration with Regent University,” said John. “If you don’t educate yourself, you’ll never get out of the starting block, because you’ll spend all your money making foolish decisions. This partnership will help individuals expand their potential.”

The certificate will culminate with students creating real business plans for their desired start-ups, by utilizing the knowledge they acquired from the first six courses.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Regent for a number of reasons, but the fact that Daymond John has influence and reach that spans from Wall Street to hip-hop culture is probably the most exciting," said Seth Stone, PCE program manager. "Everyone deserves a chance to pursue their dreams, and this entrepreneurship certificate program with Daymond John and Regent’s world-class MBA faculty gives people an affordable and practical opportunity to begin the journey of starting their own business.”

The certificate will also include an opportunity for the top business plans to be reviewed by the “Shark” himself, who will offer his personal feedback and insight to the students about their ideas.

“Many other institutions have begun to simulate the hit ABC show Shark Tank for their business students, but we are going a step further by bringing one of the ‘Sharks’ directly to our students and we couldn’t be more thrilled that it’s Daymond John. His experience and business wisdom will be an invaluable resource for our students," Stone said.

John will also make periodic visits to the Regent University campus where he will be a guest lecturer for the university's business programs.
