Regent Honors Fallen Heroes

On Saturday, Sept. 3, Regent University was a sponsor for the 31Heroes fundraising event to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. Proceeds from the event, held at the CrossFit757 affiliate in Norfolk, will go to support the military families who lost loved ones in the recent helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

The helicopter was shot down by enemy fire on Saturday, Aug. 6, killing 30 U.S. service men and one military working dog along with eight Afghan soldiers. The Pentagon has confirmed the dead Americans included 17 Navy SEALs, five Naval Special Warfare personnel who support the SEALs, three Air Force Special Operations personnel, and an Army helicopter crew of five.

Mackenzie Tobin-Padell, one of the organizers of the event, was pleased with the outcome. "$300,000 was raised and 8,000 participants joined in the workout worldwide," she said. "We are incredibly grateful for Regent's early sponsorship of 31Heroes. The early support meant a lot to the event, and we look forward to continuing to work together to support the military."

David Boisselle, Regent's director of military affairs, added, "These service members—and their families—are the best of America. They provide the blanket of freedom under which we enjoy our lives. It is Regent's honor and privilege to help ensure that these families will be taken care of."
