Dr. Don Finn is a member of the doctoral faculty who specializes in Adult Education and Professional Development. Prior to coming to Regent, Dr. Finn was a faculty member at the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where he developed and delivered professional development programs for university faculty, and adult education teachers and administrators. Additionally, Dr. Finn served as the project lead and chief curriculum developer for an online adult education certification program offered to licensed teachers. He also taught adult education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. During the 1990's, Dr. Finn worked as a middle and high school teacher in Montgomery County (Virginia) public schools, and taught in the county's adult education program.
In addition to his work at the university level and in public education Dr, Finn has presented at a number of state, regional, national, and international conferences on topics including effective instructional methods for diverse learners including adults, learners with disabilities, and online learners. Additionally, Dr. Finn has provided consulting services for various organizations and colleges and universities including the Center for Literacy Studies at the University of Tennessee, Montgomery College Health Sciences School, The Virginia-Maryland Regional Veterinary College, various colleges in the Virginia Community College System, the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Virginia Department of Education, Office of Adult Education, and the Virginia Department for Rehabilitative Services.
Dr. Finn earned a Ph.D. in Education, Adult Education and Organizational Development from Virginia Commonwealth University; his dissertation research focused on the effectiveness of delivering online professional development to community college faculty. Additionally, Dr. Finn holds M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction with an Adult Education concentration from Radford University, and a B.S. in Secondary Education, Social sciences concentration from Radford University.
Dr. Finn has published numerous articles and book chapters about effective instructional practices for adult learners, university professors, and other diverse learners. His research interests include the integration of digital technologies in education, effective instructional methodologies in the online setting, and methods for instructing a wide variety of learners.
