Doctoral Project Abstract
If We Only Knew . . . Insights on Leadership from Some of today's Top Christian Sages
Conway Z. C. Edwards
This paper seeks to glean from the insights from some of American's most influential Christian Leaders. The participants were divided into three categories: Parachurch leaders, Pastors and Educators. Each participant was required to have 20 years of full time ministry experience and have a combined audience of over 500,000 people collectively through books, tapes, various forms of media, or through their churches.
The information collected indicates a need to emphasize understanding self, pursuing continuous learning and personal growth, exhibiting courage and cultivating faith, establishing a clear Biblical philosophy of ministry, having a basic understanding of business, understanding people in order to cultivate healthy relationships, seeking intimacy with God and prioritizing prayer and valuing training and leadership. The responses from the leaders surveyed also point to deficiencies in character development, leadership and relational skills in the context of training and developing today's Christian leaders.
