Regent Honors Excellent Faculty

By Brett Wilson | November 20, 2013

During the academic year, Regent University's Office of Academic Affairs acknowledges three faculty members each semester. The Faculty Awards for Excellence Program recognizes outstanding achievement in scholarship, teaching and service involvement among the faculty.

The Fall 2013 Faculty Excellence Awards were presented by Dr. Paul Bonicelli, executive vice president, at Regent's quarterly facutly-staff meeting earlier in November.

Dr. Antipas Harris, assistant professor in the School of Divinity, was the recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award in Service. Harris has made several contributions to the Hampton Roads community through his involvement with the Youth and Urban Renewal Center, as well as local initiatives such as the Alpha Zeta Phi chapter, the Black History Month Committee and the Office of Church Relations.

"Dr. Harris is an emerging scholar and engaging teacher who has built bridges across and beyond Regent," said Bonicelli.

Dr. Kathie Erwin, assistant professor for the School of Psychology & Counseling, was presented with the Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching. Erwin makes strides beyond the classroom, having been involved in the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) for 20 years.

"She is a 'teacher's teacher,' known among her colleagues as the creative source for online excellence," said Bonicelli. "She freely gives of her time, energy and effort to ensure the highest quality of course delivered for any faculty member asking for assistance."

Dr. Emilyn Cabanda, associate professor for the School of Business & Leadership, won the Faculty Excellence Award in Scholarship. Cabanda has published several books, chapters and articles throughout the course of her academic career.

"Dr. Cabanda is known internationally as an accomplished scholar, researcher, author and a devoted Christian," said Bonicelli.
